Public transport is very efficient in Vienna. A VOR ticket gives you unlimited access to all public transport in the city area of Vienna (this includes the area around the TU Wien Main Building - where the Workshop takes place). Tickets are sold in tobacco stores, but you can also buy them from ticket-machines, which are located in every subway station (working all the time, as long as the subway lines are open). There are many kinds of tickets, trying to give people as much flexibility as possible. The most advisable is a whole-week ticket. Several possibilities are:
- Option 2: taking the City Airport Train (CAT), the tickets cost EUR 9.- and you can get them at the machines located inside the luggage claim area. The destination of the train is again the Wien-Mitte traffic-junction, i.e. LANDSTRASSE subway station.
- Option 3: the bus by Vienna Airport Lines, the ticket costs EUR 6.- and you will be brought directly to Schwedenplatz. From there take either the U4 - Direction HÜTTELDORF or the U1 - Direction REUMANNPLATZ to Karlsplatz.
- Option 1: From Schwedenplatz take the U4 - Direction HÜTTELDORF or U1 - Direction REUMANNPLATZ to Karlsplatz. From there, you can walk 3-4 minutes through the subway area to Karlsplatz;
- Option 2: Cross the Danube canal, over Salztorbrücke and take the tram line 1 or 2 to Oper (both the tram lines 1 and 2 run across the Ring but in opposite directions). From there, you can walk 4-5 minutes through the subway area to Karlsplatz.
A useful link about how to reach any address in the city with appropriate public transport can be found at Wiener Linien Site (English), or at Vor.at Site (German).
About reaching Vienna by train, consult the timetable of the Federal Railway Company (ÖBB). There are direct services to many central European cities.
The workshop sessions will take place in the Prechtl Saal, within the Main Building of the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien), located in the downtown area, on the Karlsplatz.
